Farrah Fawcett Majors And The Fallacy Of The Nipple

Back in High School, when The Leopard was but a cub, I often found myself obsessing. I have a collector’s heart, and whenever I’d obsess, I’d collect. It was simply a way of trying to grasp my need.
Like practically every other American male at the time, I had a huge crush on that vision of all that was right in the world, the utterly exquisite Farrah Fawcett–Majors (yes, that’s how I knew her at the time; she was married to The Six Million Dollar Man himself, Lee Majors).
With those huge, impossibly white teeth - - those bright, ice-blue eyes, and that famous swept back hair—I couldn’t imagine anyone more beautiful.
I wasn’t a fan of her television show, Charlie’s Angels. I was too impatient for its campy tedium. Actually, the first time I laid eyes on her was in the silly science fiction film, Logan’s Run. After that, I started collecting every magazine article, cheap paperback bio, and newspaper clipping I could find– no matter how obscure.
Finally, I remember spotting one day at my local mall that iconic Farrah poster everyone knows. The revelatory and iconic image – featuring the youthful starlet leaning back in a blood red bathing suit, her head at an odd angle, displaying those glittering pearly whites, --and most importantly, the imprint of her perky young breasts, drove me completely insane – but at the time I was too young to understand exactly why.
In no time I also bought a neatly ironed on T-shirt at a local Spencer Gifts that I wore proudly. Over time,  I matured and my obsession subsided. My view of beauty expanded well beyond skinny, sun-baked blondes, but she’ll forever be my first bonafide celebrity crush.

Louis CK is my God

One of the happiest discoveries The Leopard has had in the last few months is the work of the brilliant comedian  Louis C.K. Rarely have I been as excited to see a television show. Why? Because it's funny? Hell's yes. Because it's smart? Hell's yes. Because it's the most wildly innovative show on the tube?  A Hell's yes and (as Louis himself might have it) a big "Fuck yeah"! to that, too.

Mr. CK is the only true auteur on the idiot box these days. Writing, starring and directing and sometimes even editing every episode himself.  The result? A personal vision that is enlightening while also unfailingly entertaining.

Louis plays himself, a moderately successful comedian, father of two daughters, and a lonely guy looking for love. But mostly he's unabashedly a flawed, funny human being. Lord knows we need more of them.

8 things I love about Mad Men

1. The period detail: Everything looks right: The authentic looking 60's sets, production design, and props are perfectly realized.
2. The acting: Every actor on the show from walk-ons to the main characters, are top notch, and utterly convincing.
3. The costumes: They're almost characters in themselves. The wonderful ad-man flannel suits and the form fitting vintage dresses.
4. The writing: Fluid, straightforward, smart. Episodic, but avoids soap opera conventions.
5. The drinking: One of the funniest show elements is no matter where the characters are, in a bar, at work, in a restaurant, or at home, someone always seems to have a drink in their hand.
6. The smoking: almost as often as the drinking, someone is always seen lighting up.
7. The hair: From Don Draper's unnaturally perfect jet black locks to Joan's Lucy Ricardo red coif.
8. The comfort: Of cuddling with my girlfriend on a late night watching our favorite show.
